Golf Cart Battery Care: Make It Last for Years

Your battery pack is the most expensive part of an electric cart, and a few simple habits can add years to its life. Here is how to treat it right.

Charge the right way

Charge after every use, even short rides, and let the charger finish its full cycle rather than topping off for a few minutes. Deep, repeated draining is what wears a pack out fastest.

Lead-acid vs. lithium

If your cart uses traditional lead-acid batteries, they need a little more attention. Lithium packs are lighter, last longer, and are basically maintenance free, which is why most of our newer builds use them.

Check water on lead-acid packs

Lead-acid batteries need distilled water. Check the levels about once a month and top up after charging, keeping the plates just covered. Never use tap water, and always wear gloves and eye protection.

Keep the terminals clean

Corrosion on the terminals steals power and slows charging. Wipe them down and clear any buildup a few times a year so the connection stays strong.

Store it smart

If the cart sits for weeks, park it somewhere cool and dry and keep the pack charged. For long winter storage, top the charge and check on it every few weeks so it never sits empty.
